Diet - Brown Rice Can Help Diabetic Blood Sugar Levels
Brown rice has been known to be healthful for some time. It is a whole grain which will supply all of its intended nutrients to the human body plus fiber which is so important for staving off many unhealthy conditions. Now there is help for type 2 diabetes and lowering blood sugar levels.
New studies now show that by processing brown rice in a particular way it can reduce vascular and nerve damage caused to individuals with type 2 diabetes as well as lower their blood sugar levels. The helping agent is the same compound that assists the rice seed to grow. The process necessary to bring this compound back into the forefront is soaking it over night. It’s that simple. Apparently the rice needs to germinate a bit. According to Dr. Robert K. Yu, Director of Molecular Medicine and Genetics at the Institute of Neuroscience at the Medical College of Georgia, “Some of the active ingredients generated as a result of the germination process are beneficial.”
The compound from germinated brown rice is acylated steryl glucoside (ASG). Apparently ASG helps normalize blood sugar and enzymes that are disproportionate in people with type 2 diabetes.
When the blood sugar level raises and stays higher than normal in an individual, the enzyme ATPase goes out of whack as well. This particular enzyme helps protect against nerve damage that diabetics are so prone to. The enzyme HTase is also depleted by higher levels of sugar in the blood. The depletion of Htase is what puts those with type 2 diabetese at a higher risk for vascular disease.
Added benefits of eating the pre-germinated rice is lowering of blood pressure, raise HDL (good) cholesterol and cognition improvement. This is good news for all, not just those with type 2 diabetes trying to lower their blood sugar level.
Thanks for buzzing me today. I’ve added you to my blog roll. I much prefer brown rice and it’s also highly recommended by Weight Watchers.
