A New Cure for Addictions
The Vietnamese government claims that they have found an effective natural substance that cures drug addiction. It’s called Heantos. Apparently this herb has been used in Viet Nam for the last seventeen years to cure addicts of heroine, opium and cocaine. However, as of yet there is no scientific proof to back up their findings.
The Vietnamese government has pledged $100,00 for a testing program and the United Nations Development Program has added an additional $400,000. The testing will be conducted under John Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Heantos works differently than the older methadone treatment. It is said that it cures drug addiction in five days with no side effects or dependency on any other substance. Then another round of the herb is administered a month later to prevent resuming use of the drug and making the person’s resolve stronger.
Since it is an herbal treatment perhaps it will be used for other “lesser” addictions such as sugar, food, cigarettes and a alcohol. Because it is a natural source treatment, I believe it cannot be taken up by any drug company and charge huge prices for it. If it is available to the general public for a reasonable amount of money, it could benefit many.
